While Americans express concern about President Obama’s accomplishments in this week’s Economist/YouGov Poll (Week of 12/31/2011), they are overwhelmingly negative in their assessment of Congress. 58% think Congress accomplished less last year than it usually does. Last January, as the public looked back on the outgoing 111th Congress, they actually felt a little better about the Congress’s accomplishments, even though they had voted out many of that Congress’s incumbents in the 2010 elections.

Assessment of how Congress is handling his job overall remains extremely low: just 8% in this week’s poll approve of how Congress is handling its job; 68% disapprove.
