Few voters say that President Trump is a good role model for children, according to a new Yahoo/YouGov poll. While the large majority of voters (79%) say the president should be a good role model for children, only 26% believe that President Trump is setting a good example (including 28% of parents of children under the age of 18). The majority (56%) say he has been a bad role model (including 54% of parents).
Supporters of both Biden and Trump believe that the president should be a role model, although the former is more likely to say so than the latter (87% vs 72%).
They are much more divided on whether Trump has been a good role model: while most of the president’s supporters think he has (58%), few Biden voters agree (10%).
The data also shows that 43% of voters view Joe Biden as a good role model for children including 38% of parents. A third of voters (35%) and three in ten parents (30%) say Joe Biden is a bad role model for children.

Methodology: This Yahoo News survey was conducted by YouGov using a nationally representative sample of 1,505 US registered voters interviewed online from October 1-2, 2020. The sample was weighted according to gender, age, race and education based on the American Community Survey, conducted by the US Bureau of the Census, as well as 2016 presidential vote, registration status, geographic region and news interest. Respondents were selected from YouGov’s opt-in panel to be representative of all US registered voters. The margin of error is 4.6%.
