President Joe Biden earns significant public support in the area of climate change. In the latest Economist/YouGov poll, Americans approve of his handling of climate change by 46% approve to 37%.
Support for greater government action to combat climate change is relatively strong: 45% believe the government is not doing enough. Half that percentage (24%), however, believe the government is doing too much in this area. That includes nearly half (46%) of Republicans.
Rejoining the Paris climate change agreement is seen as a good decision. Half (51%) approve, while 35% don’t. Republicans disagree, however, disapproving of rejoining the Paris agreement by 70% to 19%.
This is perhaps no surprise when you consider that, while most Republicans say that the earth’s climate is changing (58%), more than half of these say that humans are not part of the problem (36%), and one in four Republicans (23%) believe no change is occurring at all.

Methodology: The Economist survey was conducted by YouGov using a nationally representative sample of 1,500 US Adult Citizens interviewed online between January 31 - February 2, 2021. This sample was weighted according to gender, age, race, and education based on the American Community Survey, conducted by the US Bureau of the Census, as well as 2016 Presidential vote, registration status, geographic region, and news interest. Respondents were selected from YouGov’s opt-in panel to be representative of all US citizens. The margin of error is approximately 2.9% for the overall sample.
