The share of Americans who approve of Donald Trump's job handling increased this week, but remains steady over recent weeks. Americans say the Democratic Party is better at handling health care, but prefer the Republicans for handling six other issues including immigration, taxes, and crime.
What you need to know about Americans' views on Donald Trump, as of the January 30 - February 2, 2026 Economist / YouGov Poll:
- 40% of Americans strongly or somewhat approve of how Trump's handling his job as president, and 54% disapprove, for a net job approval of -14
- This is an increase from last week, when Trump had a net job approval of -18
- A rolling three-week average of Trump's net job approval has been fairly steady over the past month, ranging between -16 and -18
Since last week, Trump's net job approval is higher among Democrats, Independents, and Republicans
- 35% of Americans strongly or somewhat approve of how Trump is handling inflation/prices, and 58% disapprove, a net approval on the issue of -23
- That's lower than Trump's net approval for his handling of taxes and government spending (-17), jobs and the economy (-14), immigration (-8), and national security (-6)
- But Trump's net approval of -23 on the issue of inflation is his highest on that issue since August 2025
- More Americans say the Democratic Party does a better job than the Republican Party at handling health care than the Republican Party. For the six other issues asked about in the survey — immigration, the economy, taxes, corruption, national defense, and crime — slightly more say the Republican Party is better at handling them than say the Democratic Party is
