(Week of 6/8/2013) At this point, nine in ten Americans are aware of the debate over the actions of the National Security Agency. But the latest Economist/YouGov Poll shows only a limited impact on opinion of the President – at least for now.

Overall approval levels for the President remains about where it has been for months. This week, 44% approve of the way President Obama is handling his job; 49% disapprove.

And on the issue of terrorism, 45% approve, and 41% disapprove. Last week, 47% approved, and 42% did not.

But there are signs of potential weakness. A majority overall – and 24% of Democrats – say that the President is more likely to say what he thinks people want to hear than to say what he really believes, a especially high statement of skepticism of the President’s honesty. And his Attorney General, most under fire for the data collection program, is viewed negatively by the public: Just 17% hold a favorable view of Eric Holder, while more than twice as many are unfavorable.
