It's known as 'ego surfing' - checking what's out there about you on Google - and 57% of people have done it.
If you have done it, you are not alone. New YouGov research reveals that a majority of online Americans have googled themselves, with young people being the most likely to have done so. 71% of those ages 18-29 have searched for their name on Google, decreasing to just 39% of people over 65.
Most people don't find much that is actually about them. If you get more than ten Google entries about yourself, you are in the top 20%. A good majority of Americans (62%) report getting only between 1 and 10 results that are about them, and a further 18% don't find anything at all.
Most people (55%) say they do not feel concerned about the information others may find out about them - but still, 16% say they are very concerned.
