Twenty-two years since they left the air, The Huxtables are America's favorite TV family, followed by The Simpsons
Last week Ann B. Davis, the woman who most famously played Alice the housekeeper on The Brady Bunch passed away at the age of 88. The Brady Bunch ran from 1969 to 1974, and at a time when TV comedy was sharper and more sarcastic than in previous decades the show was an example of that staple of American television: the cheery family sitcom.
The latest research from YouGov shows that even though Alice may have been the most popular character on the Brady Bunch, with 27% Americans saying that she was their favorite compared to the 13% who chose Marcia, the Brady family is not the most popular of America's major TV families. The Huxtables from that iconic 80s hit The Cosby Show are America's favorite with, winning the backing of 23% of the country. The Simpsons follow up on second with 18%. 10% of Americans chose The Bradys as their favorite, the same proportion of the country who said that the many families of the recent hit Modern Family were their favorites.
The favorite family does change depending on who, exactly, you ask. The favorite family for men is the Simpsons, but for women it's the Huxtables. For over-65s the top family are the Waltons, while for Republicans their favorite TV family are the painfully wholesome Cleavers from the 1950s hit Leave it to Beaver.
