Methodology
How respondents were selected: From YouGov’s opt-in panel, to be representative of all U.S. adult citizens
Who responded: 1,000 U.S. adult citizens
How: Online
When: July 28 - 31, 2022
How the sample was weighted: According to gender, age, race, and education based on the 2018 American Community Survey, conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau, as well as news interest and 2020 Presidential vote (or non-vote)
Margin of error: Approximately 3% for the overall sample
Ice cream match-ups: The respondents were asked to choose which ice cream treat they liked better in a series of 11 head-to-head match-ups. The two items in each match-up were selected randomly from 29 different items that someone could get at an ice cream truck. The poll's introductory text stated, "On each of the next few pages, you will see two items that could be ordered from an ice-cream truck. We ask that you select the one you'd prefer to order. You do not need to make your decision based solely on the picture or brand — those pictures are merely there to jog your memory. If you wouldn't want either item, leave them both unselected and click the right arrow. You will see 11 match-ups. All images have been sourced from publicly available materials or purchased products. YouGov makes no claim to their ownership. Our survey aims to discern the popularity of these products for research, opinion, and reporting purposes.”
