Many Americans would cancel travel plans over homophobic and ethnophobic warnings

Young millennials are least likely to change their plans

A group focused on equality in soccer has issued a warning for fans traveling to the World Cup in Russia, discouraging gay couples from any outward signs of affection and warning ethnic minorities to “be cautious” on their trip.

YouGov Omnibus asked respondents, if a warning like this was issued for an event which you were planning attend, would you cancel your plans? Nearly half (44%) said they would while 29% said they would attend anyway.

Over half of Democrats (52%) said they would cancel their plans, while 36% of Republicans shared this opinion. Older respondents were also more likely to cancel their plans than younger people. Those between the ages of 18 and 24 were the least likely to say they’d cancel their plans (37%), while this figure increased at each age interval to the highest occurrence (48%) among those aged 55+.
