President Obama

With the fall elections getting closer, the President may not be in a strong position to help Democratic candidates. In this week’s Economist/YouGov Poll, only 40% approve of the way he is handling his job, a new all-time low. 52% disapprove.

Independents are particularly negative: 32% of them approve, while nearly twice as many, 61% disapprove.

His direct impact on the election may come through voter belief that the country is better served by divided control of government. 26% say it is better for the same party to control the Presidency and Congress, but 38% say it is better to have Congress controlled by a different party than the one in the White House – not a good sign for Democrats.
