One third of companies in Europe are not GDPR compliant

General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) was implemented in May 2018.

Accounting firm RSM in partnership with European Business Awards surveyed 300 businesses. The findings revealed that medium-sized businesses are “struggling to understand and implement” GDPR. The report also found that about a third of firms in Europe are not GDPR compliant.

Around 57% of businesses reported confidence in their companies being GDPR compliant. Whereas, 13% of them weren’t sure of the compliance. Having launched in May 2018, GDPR is capable of enforcing heavy fines “for businesses failing to protect data and abiding by GDPR”.

Steven Snaith, technology risk assurance partner at RSM UK said that, “With so much pressure on organisations to meet complex requirements, we saw GDPR fatigue setting in last year”. He further added that companies are now reverting back to their old ways.
