"Jedi Mind-Meld"?!

During a press conference, President Obama answered criticism about his inability to broker a deal on the sequester, by saying he couldn't "do a Jedi mind meld with these folks and convince them to do what’s right."

While the President's intention might have been clear, his wording was unfortunate. In his turn of phrase, Obama mixed up "Jedi Mind Tricks", a practice from the Star Wars universe with the "Vulcan Mind-Meld", something from the Star Trek series.

As to be expected for a gaffe of this sort, reaction from the internet has been swift and harsh. Even Mr. Spock himself, Leonard Nimoy, has issued a tweet correcting the President: "Only a Vulcan mind meld will help with this congress."

The White House's social media team was quick to respond, taking full ownership of the President's statement with a photoshopped image which melded iconic quotes from the two series and linked to information on the President's tax plan.
