Harmony Korine’s controversial new movie starring Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson, Rachel Korine and James Franco has so far been a hit at box offices in limited release.
The film, which follows the exploits of four college gone wild while on spring break and their misadventures after meeting a white rapper-cum-drug dealer, has also garnered extremely polarized reviews.
CNN.com’s Tom Charity praised it as “an authentically cracked expression of the crazy, conflicting signals bombarding today's teenagers (...)”, while Chicago Reader’s J.R. Jones was less enthusiastic, saying “Korine gestures toward social criticism, but essentially this is just an hour and a half of bongs, beers, tits, and ass, thinly dressed as Natural Born Killers (...)”
Critics aside, the film has also found an unlikely advocate—James Franco’s grandmother—who pitches it in a new ad.
