Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has named Kamala Harris as his running mate.
A YouGov snap poll of 1,107 registered voters conducted moments after the announcement finds that 51 percent approve of Biden’s decision. About one-third (36%) disapprove of this decision, and about one in eight (13%) are uncertain.
Registered voters in this poll are nearly evenly split between positive (45%) and negative (42%) views of the California senator. Registered Democrats are especially likely to have a positive (77%) view of Harris.
One of the responsibilities of the the vice president of the United States is to take over the powers and duties of the presidency in the event that the president is unable to serve.
About half (53%) of registered voters surveyed in this snap poll say they are confident that Harris would have the ability to take over the powers and duties of the presidency if needed. Two in five (40%) say they are either not very confident (6%) or not at all confident (34%) in Harris’ ability to assume the duties of president.
