If all publicity is good publicity, that must have been a good week for Etch-a-Sketch. Respondents in the Economist/YouGov poll (Week of 3/24/2012) were given few clues when asked, simply, “Mitt Romney’s campaign advisers compared the Romney campaign’s plan for switching from the Republican primary campaign into the campaign against President Obama to which children’s toy?” Most (51%) volunteered, correctly, “Etch-a-Sketch.” While Romney’s campaign (and most political pundits) now say everyone will soon forget this gaffe, let’s hope for the sake of Etch-a-Sketch’s maker they will at least remember the name next time they are gift shopping for a child.
