(Week of 6/23/2012) Plurality of Americans (46%) say their family finances today are about what they were one year ago—only 16% say they are better off and 34% worse off personally compared to a year ago. As dark as that report may be, however, it may actually be a little bit rosier than the assessments Americans offer of the U.S. economy as a whole in the most recently Economist/YouGov poll (Week of June 23, 2012).
Americans see more dynamism in the national economy than in their own family’s budget: 18% say the economy is getting better right now, 38% worse, just 37% say the national economy today staying about the same.
