Americans have been much more likely to disapprove than approve of Donald Trump's job handling for almost two months — a sustained slump beyond anything he experienced in his first term.
What you need to know about Americans' approval of Trump, as of the November 28 - December 1, 2025 Economist / YouGov Poll:
- For the seventh straight week, Trump's net approval — the percentage of Americans who strongly or somewhat approve of the way he is handling his job minus the percentage who disapprove — is -15 or lower
- This week it's -19: 38% approve and 57% disapprove
- While Trump's net approval was at or below -15 (before rounding) a few times earlier in his second term, those slumps lasted only a week or two
- Small fluctuations in approval are typical, which makes a run of seven weeks notable
- In Trump's first term, his net approval never stayed at or below -15 for more than three weeks running; his longest streak fell at the same point in his term where he is now
- Joe Biden, though, had 28 straight weeks with net approval that low near the end of his presidency, followed shortly afterward by 10 consecutive weeks
- 56% of Americans think Trump is using his office for personal gain, and 32% don't
- In May, 52% thought he was and 35% didn't
- 56% think Trump is directing the Justice Department to go after his political enemies and 24% don't; the figures are little changed from October
