75 prominent Republicans signed a legal brief supporting a Constitutional right to Same-Sex marriage. The brief will be presented to the Supreme Court as it hears arguments on the on California's Proposition 8, which banned Same-Sex Marriage in the state.
According to the New York Times, the brief has "the potential to sway conservative justices as much for the prominent names attached to it as for its legal arguments," but also has the power to drive the party even farther apart as it "amounts to a direct challenge to Speaker John A. Boehner (...)"
With a potential conflict ahead, some have already begun drawing lines in the sand. One conservative website, for example, brushed off the announcement by dismissing the credentials of the signers: "Has-beens & RINOs, including Jon Huntsman and Meg Whitman, support same-sex marriage in filing with the Supreme Court (...)"
