President Obama announced three more nominees for his cabinet today: Sylvia Matthews Burwell, Ernest Moniz and Gina McCarthy.
Burwell, Obama's pick to be director of the White House Office of Management and Budget, was previously the president of the Walmart Foundation of Arkansas and, before that, a member of the Clinton Administration
Moniz, who is slated to be head of the Department Energy, is a professor at M.I.T. and director of the Energy Initiative there. He was also Under Secretary of Energy for President Clinton.
McCarthy, who is nominated to lead the Environmental Protection Agency, is currently assistant administrator for the Office of Air and Radiation, a part of the department she has been nominated to run.
The three nominees still have to be confirmed by the Senate and the potential for political combat is certainly present. As NPR, for one, predicts, "The new EPA Administrator could be the biggest lightning rod, given that agency's high profile in administration efforts to combat climate change (...)"
