More Americans than don't say the status of the Boston bombing suspects as immigrants should have an impact on immigration reform

The Senate's Gang of Eight negotiations on immigration have been going on for months. But after it was revealed that the two suspects in Boston bombing case, Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, were immigrants to the United States, some, such as Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) have argued that the bombing should have an impact on the current discussions of immigration policy.

A new YouGov poll reveals that nearly half (49%) of Americans believe that the status of the bombers as immigrants should affect the discussion of immigration policy going on right now in Congress.

36%, on the other hand, say that it should not affect the discussions.

The responses had a firm partisan slant. Two-thirds of Republicans thought the immigration status of the brothers should affect the current discussions. A less firm majority of Democrats (51%) thought the discussions should not have an effect.
