Data from the latest Economist/YouGov Poll shows that three in five Americans support boycotts of Russian-made liquor in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, while only 17% oppose them. Boycotts receive majority support among Democrats (67%), Independents (61%), and Republicans (64%). Older Americans are much more likely to support boycotts than younger Americans: 82% of people 65 and older are in favor, compared to 43% of adults under 30.

About one in three Americans (35%) say they are personally boycotting Russian-made products in response to the invasion; more (42%), however, say they are not boycotting any products. Democrats (42%) are somewhat more likely than Independents (30%) or Republicans (35%) to say they are participating in boycotts. Adults under 45 (28%) are somewhat less likely to say they are boycotting Russian products than are Americans 65 and older (44%).

Methodology: The Economist survey was conducted by YouGov using a nationally representative sample of 1,500 U.S. adult citizens interviewed online between March 5 - 8, 2022. This sample was weighted according to gender, age, race, and education based on the 2018 American Community Survey, conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau, as well as 2016 and 2020 Presidential votes (or non-votes). Respondents were selected from YouGov’s opt-in panel to be representative of all U.S. citizens. The margin of error is approximately 3% for the overall sample.
