Far more Americans disapprove than approve of Donald Trump's job performance. Immigration is one of the issues for which Americans are most likely to approve of Trump's job performance, but approval of his handling of immigration is at a record low.

What you need to know about Americans' views on Donald Trump, as of the February 6 - 9, 2026 Economist / YouGov Poll:

  • 37% of Americans strongly or somewhat approve of Trump's job performance and 56% disapprove, a net job approval of -19
  • 40% of Americans approve of how Trump is handling immigration and 53% disapprove, for a net approval on the issue of -13
    • That's the lowest net approval for his handling of immigration that Trump has received in an Economist / YouGov poll during his second term
  • Immigration has been one of Trump's strongest issues since his second term began, and despite the fall in approval of his handling of immigration, Americans' net approval of how Trump is handling other issues is lower: taxes (-19), the economy (-23), government spending (-27), and inflation (-28)
    • Trump's net approval of his handling of the economy of -23 ties his low for either term; at times the question asked about his handling of jobs and the economy
