Twinkies snack cakes have just returned to America’s grocery shelves but not everybody is rolling out the welcome wagon: one in three people (33%) have eaten Twinkies in the past, but will not continue eating them once they are re-released, according to the latest YouGov survey taken July 12 through 15, 2013.
More than one in 10 Americans (12%) have never eaten a Twinkie, and do not plan on eating one once they are re-released. 39% said they ate Twinkies before and plan on eating them again.
Although 34% say Twinkies are delicious, 60% of Americans think that Twinkies are “junk food.”
For all the press coverage Twinkies received when Hostess Bakeries closed down last year, only to return with new owners, they are not the snack most Americans say they ate most as a kid. That honor would belong to Hershey’s Chocolate (39%), followed by Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup (36%), Oreos (32%) and Tootsie Rolls (23%). Twinkies were cited by 17% of respondents.
