41% of Americans strongly or somewhat approve of Donald Trump's job performance as president, while 55% disapprove — a net approval of -14. Though sharply negative, this is a big increase from Trump's -19 net approval last week.
What you need to know about Americans' approval of Trump, as of the December 5 - 8, 2025 Economist / YouGov Poll:
- Just a few weeks after registering his worst net approval of his second term, Trump rebounded this week to record his best net approval since September
- The increase mirrors a similar increase in net approval that Trump registered at this point in his first term. That late-2017 rally proved durable: Trump's net approval stayed above -15 for almost all of the rest of his first term, after dropping below -20 in November 2017
- There are no guarantees as to whether this increase in Trump's net approval will last
- Over hundreds of Economist / YouGov Polls during Trump's two terms, increases in his net approval one week have been followed by declines the next week nearly two-thirds of the time, while increases one week have been followed by declines the next week 60% of time
- Trump's bump in net approval was driven in large part by increases in approval among groups with net disapproval of Trump's job handling, both before and after the change:
- Independents (-34 to -26)
- Black Americans (-68 to -57)
- Women (-30 to -19)
