More Americans are annoyed by the NCAA "March Madness" than enthused by it

The single elimination tournament to determine the championship for college basketball- dubbed "March Madness"-has offices, schools and homes abuzz with excitement. But a new YouGov poll reveals that more people are annoyed than amused.

When asked, "Do you think that the attention paid to the NCAA basketball tournament is more fun or annoying?", 37% called it "annoying", while only 32% of Americans answered "fun". 31% were not sure.

As may be expected, more men than women are enjoying the tournament --respectively 40% to 24%. The number, however, that found the tourney annoying was roughly the same for both genders: 36% for men and 38% for women.

Our survey also revealed that March Madness is not just a disease of the young--the portion of Americans enjoying the tournament stays roughly the same across different age groups. Immunity, however, may grow with age: older panelists were more likely to find it annoying.
